Getting cheaper car insurance hints |

Some hints and thoughts on getting cheaper car insuranceIf you're a new driver then car insurance can be very expensive. Until you have built up a no claims discount insurance is expensive. There are some things you can do to help though. Shop around. You can try insurance brokers who might be able to know the best insurance company for you and get you a great deal. You should take the pass plus test and this can knock some money off the quote. It's also good experience as it'll give you experience of motorway driving which can be very helpful.
If you can put your car away in a garage this can reduce your premium a little. If you've got junk in the garage then clear it out and put the car away. Second best is your own driveway. Parking a car on the road overnight is worst for insurance purposes. Get a low insurance group car. Ask when you're looking at cars or look up how much it'll cost. A faster car with a bigger engine will cost more. It'll also cost more in petrol so that's another great reason for picking a smaller car. An older or lower value car may be cheaper to insure. A more popular model is cheaper to repair as there are more parts available and this can make the cost cheaper. Low mileage can reduce your insurance costs - but be honest! If you do a lot more miles then you need to declare them! Mileage under 2000 miles a year is considered very low and may incur a higher charge. In the past having a woman on your insurance lowers the cost. Whether this will still be the case is unknown. Be clear about the difference between commuting to work and business use. If you drive around for work during work hours then that's business use. If you just use your car for getting to work then you are using it only for commuting. Play with the excess - sometimes a higher excess can reduce the cost of the insurance. Bear in mind you would have to pay out that excess on any claims though and that can be difficult for some people. Set it realisticly. Third party, fire and theft policies seem to be harder to find and are sometimes not very much different in price compared to comprehensive cover. Sometimes it's worth paying a small amount extra for the full cover. Check you're not having silly extras like travel cover for going to europe if you never take your car on holiday with you! These might be added as extras without you noticing. Get lots of quotes. The main comparison sites exclude a couple of companies (Direct Line is one not on the comparison sites) so make sure your quotes include them. Look for vouchers or cash back offers that will save you money and get you cash in your pocket! |
